My Story

Cari's Cerifiable Crew consists of Allen Cartney, (Cari's husband), Kirsty Gore (Cari's sister), Angie Watt, Kirsty Whitehead, Sharon Hunter, Angel and Chloe Anis, Mark and Jill Yates (Cari's friends). We have all come together to do the Moonwalk in Edinburgh on the 10th June 2017 for one reason only. That reason is Cari who we all love dearly and would do anything for.

In October 2016 Cari was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is currently undergoing 8 rounds of chemotherapy which will be followed by surgery and then radiotherapy. In total it is around 10 months of treatment.

Cari's attitude and outlook is amazing. She is the inspiration for her Certifiable Crew and to everyone who knows her. Her positivity throughout this, even the dark days that chemotherapy has brought is unbelievable. She only knows how to be positive and to look towards the future.

Cari wanted to do some fundraising and wanted to do something this year. So it was over a Saturday night Chinese takeaway the idea for doing the Moonwalk was born. We are the certifiable crew because all of us apart from Cari's sister have never done anything like this before. Cari won't be well enough to join us on this adventure but she will be for the next one.

Allen, Angie, Sharon, Angel, Chloe, Mark and Jill are doing 26 miles and the Kirsty's are doing 6.55 miles. We are starting to train and we will complete the challenge no matter how sore or blistered our feet are because we are doing it for our Cari.

We all know and aware of the statistics of breast cancer. But when is affects your own family and friend suddenly it is real. What has hit everyone is that Cari is only in her early 40's.

Cari is not the only person that her Certifiable Crew have known personally that have had breast cancer. Mark's mother was diagnosed in 2007 and then again in 2015. She is currently in remission. Jill's aunt was diagnosed in 2009 and unfortunately relapsed in 2015 and there was no active treatment possible. However, as she approaches her 91st birthday her attitude and positivity and enjoyment of life matches Cari's outlook.

All the money raised help's charities both big and small that support individuals with breast cancer and their families.
